Jordan Bennett, Why Are Native Americans (2012), acrylic and gesso on canvas
About the artwork: This piece is from a series of paintings based on screenshots, which depict actual Google search results in Canada. Here, the digital consciousness of a population is revealed. Inquiries made are an outcome of poor education about First Peoples’ history, and the results given lead us to question the legitimacy of information circulated about the Indigenous people in the digital age. The artist intends for this piece to stand as an archival source, immortalized for future reference. This piece is one of Art Bank’s most recent acquisitions.
